French Software – Best software to learn French

The French is called the language of romance – which is why there is a clamor for French Software to learn the language better. Perhaps, part of that may be attributed to their music. Songs on chivalry and love became prevalent in the 10th century. And the French opera holds a reputation for being romantic – operatic tragedies or otherwise.

But why learn French?

Next to English, it is the second language most learned as a lot of countries speak it as a first language. It is said to be the official language in around 30 countries and other countries have made it their second language. Should a person chance upon a trip to any of these French-speaking countries, then knowing how to speak French would be an indispensable commodity.

Learning a second language is like learning a wonderful skill. One can use it while visiting French speaking countries, or one may simply consider it a very good advantage in terms of job hunting as most dual speakers bypass the usual monolingual applicant – the boss goes for the multilingual. Always. So while a lot of people may agree on the advantages of learning French, the use of French Software may be an issue of contention for some people.

While some people may argue that nothing still beats learning from a real, live French-native person, the rise of French Software for learning the language is still a good option for most people. In today’s busy lifestyle, a lot of people don’t have time to learn a second language in a language school. Doing it in the comfort of home is a good deal for most people as they can listen and learn the basics at their own time and pace.

The best French Software for language learning usually possesses these qualities:

-The narrator or lecturer’s native language should be French. (There is no point in learning from a half-baked French-speaker – he or she may not be able to get the accents correctly.)

-Some software goes for teaching new words – bit by bit – while neglecting to focus on the grammar basics. While slowly building the vocabulary makes perfect sense, basic sentence construction is easier if the student first learns how it is done.

-Lessons should not be skipped. Each lecture should connect to each other and should be built as a foundation for the succeeding lessons.

-Having a speech recognition program is a great bonus – so is an individual evaluation charted according to your progress.

-Picture association is also an excellent way to slowly build one’s vocabulary. Like teaching a baby his first words, it is the easiest way to learn and remember anything.

Learning a second language isn’t an overnight event. It entails a great deal of patience and hard work. It is no walk in the park, as a person interested in learning it should be diligent enough to do lots of practice. French Software products can only do so much – the student must also have the willingness to learn and the power to practice speaking it at every chance he gets.

Some Italian Language Facts

Widely considered as one of the most beautiful spoken languages in the world, Italian is thought of as the language of opera, art, gastronomy and, of course, romance. Indeed, for those not native to Italy, the Italian language is often learned for these reasons and not from any real necessity.

The Italian language is spoken in Italy by 59 million people. Other countries where Italian is spoken include Vatican City, Croatia, Malta, San Marino, Corsica, Slovenia, Sicily, Sardinia (mainly Northern), Monaco, Albania and parts of Switzerland (mainly Southern).

The story of the Italian language originates from ancient Rome. Italian is originally derived and descended from the Latin Language, which was spoken by the Romans. As such, Italian is known and referred to as one of the ‘Romance’ Languages and remains the closest language to Latin. Italian also has a strong resemblance to the languages of France, Spain, Portugal and the Catalan. This is because Italian is from the same linguistic root and family as these languages. Once the Roman Empire had diminished, the country began to grow again and prosper around its developing and emerging cities. As they grew and matured, these cities became increasingly independent from each other and this included the languages spoken there.

Thus, the Italian language that we know evolved from different dialects over a long period of time. The fact that there were so many dialects within the country presented a situation where an official united Italian language needed to be acknowledged, for practical reasons. For example many Italian writers were writing in their own local dialects, such as Giovanni Boccaccio (1313 -1375) who wrote ‘Decameron’ and works of poetry in his local dialect. These dialects would of course only be understood completely by those who were familiar with them and so these works would not be widely appreciated. Eventually in a revolutionary move, Dante published ‘The Divine Comedy’ in the 14th Century in a variety of different Italian dialects, including his own Tuscan dialect. Obviously trying to centrally run a country under these constraints would be a logistical nightmare. As time progressed and the 14th century began, the main dialect that began to dominate Italy was Tuscan. The region of Tuscany was centrally located in Italy and its capital city of Florence was extremely significant financially due to the volume and diversity of its trade. And ultimately, the unified standard official Italian language was borne mainly from the dialect of Tuscany.

Even today, there are still many variations of different dialects within the Italian language. Within the same region there are often different dialects. This is the case in Venice, Naples and Friuli, Sardinia and Sicily. The local dialects within regions are usually spoken by the elderly population, whilst the younger population tend to speak the official Italian Language.

The Italian language lives up to the fascinating history of Italy. Its multifaceted evolution borne of proud individuality is represented and celebrated and has given the Italian language its unique passion.

Grammar – No Tears

Many school children had shed buckets of tears during grammar classes all throughout history, and not just in one country or in one language. Grammar, it seems, is such a difficult and strict subject worthy of tears and pain (from teacher’s stick). Here now is our take on grammar – without tears.

First, the not-so formal definition of grammar.

Grammar is a field of linguistics that involves all the various things that make up the rules of language. Subfields of linguistics that are considered a part of grammar include syntax, phonetics, morphology, and semantics.

Grammar is also used as a term to refer to the prescriptive rules of a given language, which may change over time or be open to debate.

Again, from a layman’s point of view, most people think of grammar as simply a matter of arbitrary pronouncements, like defining “good” or “bad” language. Samples would be the word “ain’t” and such declarations as “Never end a sentence with a preposition.”

Linguists do not subscribe to this dictatorship, nor are they interested. They believe that grammar is simply the collection of principles defining how to put together such things as a sentence.

Once in a while, there are declarations that such-and-such a language does not have grammar. However, that is far from the truth.

Every language on earth has restrictions on how words must be put together to construct a sentence. These restrictions are the principles of syntax, and every language has one.

For instance, every language has rules in constructing sentences that asks questions needing a yes or a no, like “Can you hear me?” Or questions that invites other answers, “What did you see?” Other sentences express commands “Drink the water.” Or sentences that declares or makes assertions. “Whales eat plankton.”

In formal terms this time, the syntactic principles of a language sometimes insist on some order of words or may allow other choices.

In English, for instance, sentences must have swords in the order of subject-verb-object. In “Whales eat plankton,” whales is the subject, eat is the verb and the object is “plankton.”

In Japanese, sentences allow the words to be in several possible orders. Of course, the normal sequence is subject-object-verb. In the Irish language, the order is verb-subject-object.

You may have noted that even if the language allows several orders of the phrases in the sentence, there is still a system that regulates the choice.

Not only do languages have syntax, there are also similar principles of syntax found all over in many languages in the world. English, Swahili, and Thai have similar word orders, even if they are totally unrelated in any way. Sentences in Maori, Irish, Masai, and ancient Egyptian are remarkably similar, too.

Another aspect of grammar where languages differ more radically is morphology, the principle that governs the structure of words. For instance, the English word “undeniability” which is a complex noun from the adjective “undeniable” which came from the adjective “deniable” and formed from the verb “deny.”

German and Eskimo languages permit more complex word-building than English. Others like the Chinese and Vietnamese do not.

In another language aspect, English have different pronouns for use as Object or Subject in a sentence (they or them). In Chinese, there is no variation of shapes of words.

In any case, we have just skimmed through some grammar lessons in our grammar without tears. Is anyone crying yet?

The Mandarin Language and China Is Here To Stay

To learn Chinese, also known as Standard Mandarin, Putonghua and Mandarin is to go on a pretty interesting adventure. The dialect of Standard Mandarin is called Chinese because it is the lingua franca of China. There are a myriad of other distinct etymological groupings within the Middle Kingdom but not one of these is as pervasive as the Standard Mandarin dialect. The cultural significance of the Standard Mandarin dialect can therefore hardly be overstated. All this means that it is standard Mandarin that holds the key to exploring China. Proficiency in this mode of communication therefore means that you will be able to speak to another one fifth of mankind. Unless you already do not speak English, which I assume you do, as you are reading this, there is no language that will grant you the same new scope of opportunities.

I recently heard a great quote about working in China. A young professional was giving his acceptance speech at a scholarship rewarding ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden. The scholarship was awarded to him so that he could work in the Swedish Trade Council office in China for a year. He had gotten the stipend because of his ability to passionately communicate the nature of Mandarin language studies and China in general. In his speech he said that working, living and breathing in Shanghai is like being in New York at the turn of the last century. There is an enormous enthusiasm in China today.

This is not strange. Over the last 20 years Chinas economy has almost doubled 4 times. This cataclysmic force has left very little of what existed before intact. The enormous power behind Chinas roaring market liberalization has lifted one billion people out poverty and has created a new super power. China is in many ways the only real contender in the race of global dominance with The United States of America. We speak about the G2 today. A concept that will gather an increasing momentum in the future.

Popular culture too is taking notice. Chinas ascension into the world’s limelight really began in 2008 with the Olympics. Here the world could see the results of all the exported happy meal toys. An industrialized economic marvel of infrastructure had been created in Beijing. Since then China’s profile has been continually raised in Hollywood and elsewhere. In 2009 the film 2011 came out. It told the tale of impending doom for earth and mankind. The first half of the film is devoted to the signs that the earth’s core is heating up and about to explode. The second half is about all the characters trying to get to China because it is the Chinese that are going to save us all. China has used its manufacturing prowess to create a batch of high tech arks that will survive the second deluge that even inundated the Himalayas. The only mention of Europe is a car crash in Paris and the subsequent destruction of the continent when the world explodes. It is a clear sign that popular opinion is about to change, or already has changed, when Hollywood starts making films about it. Already in 2009 this point was coming across in the media: China is here to stay.

However, in 2009, the full brunt force of the economic trauma had yet to be reached. The real public relations success of the so-called Beijing consensus was not yet visible. China would spend the next year sailing smoothly in the wreckage of the world economy. This, more than any other monument to Chinese recent achievements, marks the end of American super dominance of geo political issues.

China is today, and will be much more so in the future, a very worthy contender for the heavy weight title. With it, Mandarin will grown in importance as a mode of communication, and with that so will Mandarin language studies. China and Standard Mandarin is here to stay.

Learn Spanish in the Comfort of your Home

In years past your options were limited if you wanted to learn Spanish. You could either sign up for a class that you could go to, or you could sit at home with a record or tape that would teach you to speak Spanish by repetition. These days you have a lot more options available that will allow you to learn Spanish in your own home.

The computer has done a very good job of making different programs available to people that want to learn Spanish at home. These programs range from very simple and straightforward, to being very interactive. They use a variety of multimedia programs to reach people with different learning styles. They also come in a wide range of prices, so you need to know how much you can afford before you start your search for the right program.

Another thing you should think about is how in depth you want to go with learning Spanish. For some people all they need is some conversational Spanish to get them through an upcoming trip. Others are in a position where they will be interacting with Spanish speaking people on a daily basis. For these people, a much more complete program is necessary.

You should also consider your learning style. Do you learn well from written and audio lessons, or do you need a more interactive style of lesson in order for you to learn? Although they were written mainly for children, some of the programs include games and stories as a way to keep you actively involved in the learning, and they have been very effective programs for people to learn with.

A great way to be able to practice and to reinforce what you have learned is by tuning into one of the Spanish televisions stations. This gives you practice listening to people actually using the language in conversation, and is a better real example of the way people speak than can be found on audio files designed to teach you words and phrases. At first you may find that it is difficult to keep up, but with practice, you will be able to understand more and more of what is being said.

There are many programs and resources available to help you learn Spanish. Perhaps the hardest part is deciding which program to choose. Once that decision is made, you willl have access to a whole new culture.
